Been thinking about that myself. Patho-Gen might have a hard time getting to us, what with the radiation and all, but if they do get out there...

[They could order them to come in. Knock them out. Hell, maybe mind-control someone big like him to destroy everything they've built, or to hurt the others taking refuge there. The possibilities are endless in the worst way.]

Even then, a watch will have to know when we're being controlled. Or keep from getting controlled themselves.

[And that's not even touching the problem of people like him, who don't like the idea of being watched, even by a fellow Augmented for safety. They can't all be trusted, same as anyone.]

I was thinking about how we get out there, too. It's a long walk for some folks. Especially those without legs.

[Okay, he can help with scouting, but—]

Wait, you got mirrors too?
feistro: (🎵 and i've seen time tell tales)

Hm. Can't say I've ever felt anything going through the ones Northly and I've got. I thought they might be put to better use out there so no one has to go through Patho-Gen's teleporters.

[He hates those things.]
feistro: (🎵 he's not concerned with yesterday)

[personal profile] feistro 2025-11-12 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure Northly comin' over at all hours ain't vital, Mel.
feistro: (🎵 it's boring being the same)

[personal profile] feistro 2025-11-12 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
I could say the same about yours. You got more people over there than I do. Folks you need to look after.
feistro: (🎵 jackknife in your sweaty hands)

[Classic Mel, always underestimating her own contributions. He sighs quietly on his end, knowing he's not winning this battle.]

Where do you think they come from?
feistro: (🎵 measured out in miles)

[personal profile] feistro 2025-11-12 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
[He also got money. But what would be giving them money and magical mirrors?]

Seems like there's something out there that wants to help us. But why?
feistro: (🎵 he's a new world man)

[personal profile] feistro 2025-11-13 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's the world itself trying to help us.

[Sure, maybe the idea of a world giving them mirrors and money is far-fetched, but they've all been dragged out of their own worlds and are turning into monsters, against all reasonable logic. Anything seems to be on the table these days.]
feistro: (🎵 so much to say, those yesterdays)

[personal profile] feistro 2025-11-13 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Me too.

[Pom, generally a pragmatist, feels that cynicism too; it weighs on him all the time, especially without Purl to balance it out.]

You ever heard of bioenergy? That a thing where you come from?
feistro: (🎵 he's got to walk a fine line)

[personal profile] feistro 2025-11-13 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
When things die, what energy they've got returns to the world. It grows in the grass and trees, feeds the herbivores that eat them, transfers to the carnivores that eat them. And when they die, back into the world it goes, decomposition helping the plants grow again. The environment changes over time in a way that helps it support all the life there. It spurs evolution, gives monsters incredible abilities that seem impossible otherwise.

But sometimes, it does something unusual. Changes monsters in unexpected ways, transforming them into something new. Sometimes, they're an apex predator, something reckless and wild and too dangerous to leave alive. Other times, they're almost like a guardian, manifested to protect the world and those living in it.

[There's a soft sigh on his end. He can't help but feel a little homesick talking about this.]

Just something I've thought about from time to time when considering the Katalyth. Where it comes from, what it does to this world, and what this world might want of us.
