No, it's all right. Silco's just that sort of person.
[ The kind that needs someone keeping an eye on them somehow. She trusts Takasugi would tell her if something's happened but... ]
Oh, I'm certain he abhorred that. You thought I was particularly cautious; he's something else entirely. I didn't realize he'd been injured there. He certainly doesn't carry himself as if he was.
[ Unlike the eye, which is plain to see. ]
I'm glad it no longer hurts you. What an awful experience. But...you did meet with the squid? I had wanted to speak to someone about it. Him? Her? I'm not certain of the gender. But I wanted to be certain it wouldn't potentially interfere in a project of mine.
[ It’s also why she’s not dishing on that injury, since it hadn’t actually been one at all. But she’d promised Silco that she wouldn’t share, and she’d meant it. It’s part of her personal ethics that she’d explained—that “injury” was something so deeply personal that Eleanor felt bad about witnessing it. Even for Silco. ]
But on a happier note (more or less), yes, I did. Set and I managed to chat with it, so much as we’re able. He provides a little translation for the squidly parts, since he can speak with animals, and I provide the conduit to actually have a conversation.
Genderwise, I’ve settled on “them”, simply because I don’t think they rightly know either. The poor dear is all scrambled, but it’s not hostile like the plants we encountered recently. Just terribly lonely and loud about it. It’s a bit like that saying where it doesn’t know its own strength, you know?
What project were you working on? I’d guess they wouldn’t interfere, since Set and I do try and go say hello to the dear when we can, but I can also try and put in a good word, potentially?
So long as they're all right. I heard it was quite a fraught thing. Someone I know was injured getting too close to the bridge edge but he seems to be fine now. If the squid is neutral and not interested in harming any of us, then all the better.
I'm hoping to see about cleaning out the old homes on the Karteria side and to return any items to their potential owners. And then to remake the bridge city, if allowed, if the former inhabitants who are still around are all right with it.
At some point, many of the Augmented may not be palatable to Karterians. Worse, I've witnessed some of them losing control. Having somewhere that they can stay, even temporarily — which means we'll need something like the barrier — will give them safety and dignity. But I don't want to infringe on the squid's territory, either, and the bridge itself is in dire need of repairs, especially too close to Kelesis.
